Import a Generated Build with a Java Data Pack

Saved Schem Canvas projects can export a data pack ZIP that places their blocks in Minecraft Java 1.20.1. This path does not require WorldEdit, but it does require access to the world files and permission to run commands.

Updated . Target: Java 1.20.1, pack format 15. Other versions and Bedrock are not verified.

Download the saved revision

Open your private project, save any edits, and choose “Vanilla Java · data pack ZIP” in “Bring it into Minecraft”. Downloading a saved revision does not use a generation credit. Public gallery downloads currently provide .schem; this data pack workflow belongs to saved projects.

Install and run the pack

  1. Back up your world. Copy the ZIP directly into <world>/datapacks/ without extracting it. A local world is normally under .minecraft/saves/; remote servers require server file access.
  2. Enable cheats or obtain operator permission, then run /reload.
  3. Choose an empty loaded area within the build height. Stand at the lower northwest corner, leaving room east, up and south for the dimensions shown in the workbench.
  4. Copy the exact /execute at @s align xyz run function … command from the export panel. The function name belongs to your saved revision; do not paste a placeholder name.

Placement replaces the whole bounding volume

Air as well as solid blocks replaces existing cells. The pack does not run automatically and has no undo command. Restore your backup if needed. The command aligns placement to your block coordinates; facing direction does not rotate the structure.

Using the raw .mcfunction option

This is for an existing Java 1.20.1 data pack with pack format 15. Put the downloaded function in data/schem_canvas/functions/ and use the matching command in the export panel. If you do not already maintain a pack, use the ZIP option.

If the function is not found

Check that the ZIP is inside the correct world’s datapacks directory, run /datapack list and /reload, and use the function name from that exact revision. Check permissions and the pinned game version. This is not a general-purpose converter for uploaded .schem or .litematic files.

Validation scope

Local Java 1.20.1 server tests compared three saved fixtures through data-pack placement and WorldEdit placement. Exact block checks passed for those fixtures. Client installation and visual acceptance remain pending; these results do not guarantee every generated build or newer game version.
