How to Import a Schem File with WorldEdit

Put the downloaded .schem file in WorldEdit’s schematics folder, load it, and paste it into a backed-up Java world. This guide covers Schem Canvas Sponge v2 exports targeting Java 1.20.1.

Updated . Local server checks used WorldEdit 7.2.15; client visual acceptance remains pending.

1. Prepare the world and WorldEdit

Install a compatible WorldEdit release for your server or mod loader. Back up the world and choose an empty, loaded area. Enable cheats or obtain the required operator and WorldEdit permissions.

2. Copy the downloaded file

On a Fabric installation, use config/worldedit/schematics/. On a plugin server, use plugins/WorldEdit/schematics/. These paths are relative to the game or server directory; installations can override them. On a remote server, the file must be uploaded to the server’s folder.

3. Load and paste

For a file named my-build.schem, run the following commands. Replace the example filename with the actual download name; the saved-project export panel provides commands for that revision.

//schem load my-build.schem
//paste

Schem Canvas exports use a lower northwest origin and extend east (+X), up (+Y) and south (+Z). Stand where that corner should go, with enough room for the dimensions shown on the build page. This description is specific to our exports; other creators’ schematics may have different offsets.

4. Inspect the placement

Inspect the roof, windows, stairs, entrance and interior. Pasting replaces cells including air inside the exported bounds. Use //undo immediately if placement is wrong, or restore your backup. Do not assume that a valid file is a fully furnished or gameplay-tested build.

Evidence and next steps

Local server tests checked exact block placement for selected fixtures in Java 1.20.1. They do not establish client rendering quality or every mod combination. See the official WorldEdit clipboard guide for general command behavior.
